From April 22 to 25, the second meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) 2026 was held in Mexico City. Li Fanrong, Chairman of Sinochem Holdings and 2026 ABAC Chair, attended the full session and chaired relevant events throughout the meeting.
Centering on the annual theme of “Openness, Connectivity, Synergy,”?Li?advanced substantive progress on proposals delivered by working groups covering regional economic integration, digital innovation, physical and institutional connectivity, and sustainable development through a series of pragmatic measures.?Li?stressed that all APEC economies should strengthen solidarity and collaboration, engage in in-depth exchanges, put forward practical solutions to regional challenges, and pursue steady progress on the basis of seeking common ground while reserving differences.?Participants held in-depth consultations on a package of outcome documents, including the proposed statement on the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific (FTAAP), a connectivity statement, as well as letters and reports to Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT), achieving?phased annual results.?
At the Connectivity Working Group session, the proposal?put forward by?Li, titled “Energy Connectivity—Providing Reliable Momentum for APEC Regional Development,”?was unanimously adopted.?
On the sidelines of the meeting, Li?delivered a keynote speech at the China-Mexico Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). He also visited?Syngenta’s Mexico operations and?received?a work briefing from the local team.
